Developing People In Every Sector

An Introduction to the PSM case Studies below

There are a few things which are similar to all PSM training and development Programmes, and which all of the case studies you will find here have in common.

The PSM Training Approach and Method

Questions which explore and challenge our understanding of the subject form the basis of all PSM training sessions. Together with the individual responses our sessions result in an interactive workshop style of presentation. Participants are also given the maximum number of opportunities to practice what they have learnt and experiment with role-plays and practical exercises throughout the programmes.

We encourage a minimum of note taking and a maximum of participation during our training. Programme notes are made available after each module and distributed to the participants by e-mail. Our method of presentation encourages a full and open debate, and allowances are made for issues to arise spontaneously and to be addressed fully.

Where possible, PSM runs non-consecutive training days. This is to give participants the chance to put the content of the training into practice between sessions. More importantly, participants are then asked to report back at subsequent sessions on what they have found. In our experience, the report back is a quintessential point in the training; it is the point of learning, the point where things start to change. We see it as the penny dropping moment! And these moments are not just penny-dropping for the speaker; they are penny-dropping for the group. When one participant is talking, it starts clicking with everyone else. The report back is a very gentle, non-threatening process and people speak about their findings at will, nothing is enforced.

Programme Evaluation & Follow Up

Two weeks after every PSM development programme we follow up with each participant individually by telephone. The purpose of this is threefold:

Final Report

On completion of the follow up interviews mentioned above, a report is sent to the client. This contains a summary of the feedback received from the participants together with any further suggestions and recommendations. Reports are all confidential and anonymity is maintained.

Evaluation

How do we evaluate the work we do? How do we know if we are developing people or not? How do we know if the training has been successful? Well, our clients tell us. By looking at the feedback from each participant and from speaking to senior management we get a very good idea of the effects our training has. In most of the case studies you will read here, we have included the participants’ comments to give you an idea of the effects of our training.
