Developing People

Our six fundamentals

Each of us has much more hidden inside us than we have had a chance to explore. Unless we create an environment that enables us to discover the limits of our potential, we will never know what we have inside of us.
Muhammed Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Winner - 2006

How do we see it?

We have 6 fundamentals which are the bedrock of every single thing we do at PSM:

Universal principles:

Why are some people better than others at leadership, communication, relationships, stress management and so on?

Something gets in the way for most of us. It may be fear, limiting ideas, bad habits, past baggage, negative thinking, or a false understanding. The good news is that these limits that get in the way of potential can be removed, all of them - How?

If we take a great leader, they will probably know exactly what leadership is. The rest of us probably won’t. We will make a stab at it, but how often have you sat down, and actually asked the question: What is leadership? What is communication? What is teamwork?

The answers to these 'what is' questions are what PSM calls 'universal principles'. You have to get to these in order to gain an understanding of the subject. Can you become good at something if you don't know what it is? How often have you asked a 'what is…' question? Rarely? Never?

Trust us: getting an understanding of these areas is the catalyst for real and substantial change. It sounds so logical, but it is often the step we skip.

The people who excel in these areas only have one thing you don’t: they know the answer to the 'what is' question. For those of us who don't, that's where PSM comes in. We challenge habitual assumptions and attitudes and this creates the possibility for new and fresh thinking. This is the key to development.

The attributes of universal principles is that they don't change over time, they cross all cultures, they can be applied in all situations, they are natural and so easy to remember.

All of PSM's material is based on universal principles, the answers to the 'what is' questions.

No awareness, No change

We can’t fix things that we are not aware of. Awareness precedes all change.

Our Potential is Limitless

Everybody wants to be free from something, whether it’s free from limiting ideas, fears, or problems in professional or personal situations. When we say that we say that 'our potential is limitless', we mean that we can be free from these things. They are not a given. Whatever limits people are experiencing right now, those limits that are getting in the way of people realising their full potential can be eliminated.

Life is Practice

Our work and material is practical. This means that we don’t ask people to adopt exercises and theories which are unnatural, useless, difficult to apply and all too easily forgotten. Development only happens when we work at it, when we practice doing something differently. Thus we encourage all of our clients to practice, to work, to test and verify through their own experience all of the propositions, principles and ideas that come out in the sessions

Be the example

It would be foolish to think that we’ve all got this nailed, but it is also foolish to think that we don’t work with it, because we do. As a company, we work with our own material on a daily basis. Our people are encouraged to live it. This keeps it fresh, real, honest, and effective.

Always open, always evolving

This means we meet our clients where they are, not where we are. We align our work and services with the specific and current needs of the people we engage with, and we respond fully to them.
