Mediation

Building a successful outcome for all

There is no difficulty that cannot be resolved. We see mediation as an enlightened method of conflict resolution and a wise alternative to litigation.

Mediation is a confidential process in which an impartial third party assists people in a dispute to explore and understand their differences and arrive at a voluntary settlement. The parties, not the mediator, dictate the terms of any agreement. Mediation leaves relationships undamaged and strives to find an outcome that benefits all parties. An individual’s statutory rights remain unaffected throughout the entire process.

We specialise in commercial and workplace dispute resolution.

Benefits of Mediation:

Cuts the costs of conflict

Mediation reduces the stress and staff loss associated with disputes.

A wise alternative to litigation

Mediation can be entered into at short notice with no lead-in time, whereas litigation takes months to get off the ground. Mediation is less time consuming, less expensive, and the parties have more control over the outcome.

True objectivity

Mediators are truly objective because they have no vested interest in the outcome.

Restores relationships

Mediation leaves relationships undamaged and can even repair them.

Enhances employees' conflict resolution skills

It shows people a different model to work with.

Cultivates dignity at work

By depersonalising the conflict and promoting respect for both parties.

The Procedure

  • » PSM first meets with the client(s) who is commissioning the mediation. This is to ensure that mediation is the appropriate response to the client’s situation, and to ensure that the process of mediation is understood and supported by all parties.

  • » The client themselves, sometimes with the help of PSM, secures a willingness on the part of the parties to the conflict to go forward and enter into the process of mediation.

  • » Mediation begins between the main parties. This may take several sessions, or just one as the case may be. After the first meeting, PSM advises the client as to the expected number of sessions. Our experience has shown that often, it will be a series of either joint or private sessions conducted over one day, and in many cases, this is sufficient.

  • » The parties to the mediation then decide what agreement or response should go back to the organisation. The aim is to get a single text where the parties agree an outcome to the process.

What Our Clients Say...

I really enjoyed it - it was not what I expected at all. I would never have looked at problem solving in this way before.
